Malas have been used for hundreds of years as a tool for aiding in the reciting of mantras or prayers. They are typically made of 108 beads with a 109th larger bead at the end known as the guru bead.   Our mala beads can also include marker beads, in addition to the 108, which serve as a gentle reminder to return to your mantra when the mind wanders.  You can choose to have your marker beads placed after every 10th wooden bead, or after every 27th wooden bead or a number that has meaning for you.  Marker beads will be amazonite. Often called the 'hope stone'. It is a soothing, soft turquoise stone that is believed to bring balance and calm to the person wearing it.

It is believed that, with the repetition of your personal mantras, your mala stores your spiritual energy. May this become a treasured piece in your meditation practice. If you do not meditate, may your mala become infused with your intentions and serve as a gentle reminder to take time every day to pause and be grateful. A reminder to strive to keep your energy positive!

At SFDesigns, we also believe in the power of wood.  The Cherokee speak of trees as the 'Standing People'. With deep roots, wood is strong and resilient.  The mala is the perfect talisman!
